New Testament Commands and Exhortations for Believers

Abhor that which is evil
Let love be without dissimulation. Abhor that which is evil; cleave to that which is good. Romans 12:9

Abide in Christ
Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, except it abide in the vine; no more can ye, except ye abide in me. John 15:4 (also 1 John 2:28)

Abstain from every appearance of evil
Abstain from all appearance of evil. 1 Thessalonians 5:22

Abstain from fleshly lusts
Dearly beloved, I beseech you as strangers and pilgrims, abstain from fleshly lusts, which war against the soul. 1 Peter 2:11

Abstain from fornication
For this is the will of God, even your sanctification, that ye should abstain from fornication: 1 Thessalonians 4:3 (cf. 1 Corinthians 6:18)

Ask God for wisdom in faith
If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him. James 1:5 (including v.6,7)

Aim to be quiet, do your own business and work with our own hands
And that ye study to be quiet, and to do your own business, and to work with your own hands, as we commanded you; 1 Thessalonians 4:11

Avoid foolish questions, genealogies, and contentions and arguments about the law
But avoid foolish questions, and genealogies, and contentions, and strivings about the law; for they are unprofitable and vain. Titus 3:9 (also 2 Timothy 2:23)

Avoid profane and vain babblings and false science
O Timothy, keep that which is committed to thy trust, avoiding profane and vain babblings, and oppositions of science falsely so called. 1 Timothy 6:20

Awake to righteousness
Awake to righteousness, and sin not; for some have not the knowledge of God: I speak this to your shame. 1 Corinthians 15:34

Be content with what you have
Let your conversation be without covetousness; and be content with such things as ye have: for he hath said, I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee. Hebrews 13:5

Be a doer of the word of God
But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves. James 1:22

Be filled with the Holy Spirit
And be not drunk with wine, wherein is excess; but be filled with the Spirit. Ephesians 5:18

Be a follower of God
Be ye therefore followers of God, as dear children. Ephesians 5:1

Be gentle to all
And the servant of the Lord must not strive; but be gentle unto all men, apt to teach, patient. 2 Timothy 2:24

Be given to hospitality
Distributing to the necessity of saints; given to hospitality. Romans 12:13 (also 1 Peter 4:9)

Be holy
But as he which hath called you is holy, so be ye holy in all manner of conversation; Because it is written, Be ye holy; for I am holy. 1 Peter 1:15-16

Be kind, tenderhearted, forgiving one another
And be ye kind one to another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God for Christ's sake hath forgiven you. Ephesians 4:32 (cf. Romans 12:10)

Be looking for that blessed hope
Looking for that blessed hope, and the glorious appearing of the great God and our Saviour Jesus Christ; Titus 2:13

Be not deceived
Be not deceived: evil communications corrupt good manners. 1 Corinthians 15:33

Be not forgetful to entertain strangers
Be not forgetful to entertain strangers: for thereby some have entertained angels unawares. Hebrews 13:2

Be not unwise
Wherefore be ye not unwise, but understanding what the will of the Lord is. Ephesians 5:17

Be of one mind with other believers
Be of the same mind one toward another. Mind not high things, but condescend to men of low estate. Be not wise in your own conceits. Romans 12:16 (also Romans 15:5; 2 Corinthians 13:11; Philippians 2:2, 3:16; 1 Peter 3:8,  18; cf. 1 Corinthians 1:10; Philippians 1:27)

Be patient in tribulation
Rejoicing in hope; patient in tribulation; continuing instant in prayer. Romans 12:12

Be patient toward all
Now we exhort you, brethren, warn them that are unruly, comfort the feebleminded, support the weak, be patient toward all men. 1 Thessalonians 5:14

Be patient waiting for the coming of the Lord
Be patient therefore, brethren, unto the coming of the Lord. Behold, the husbandman waiteth for the precious fruit of the earth, and hath long patience for it, until he receive the early and latter rain. Be ye also patient; stablish your hearts: for the coming of the Lord draweth nigh. James 5:7,8

Be ready to give an answer for the hope that is in you
But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts: and be ready always to give an answer to every man that asketh you a reason of the hope that is in you with meekness and fear. 1 Peter 3:15 (cf. Colossians 4:6)

Be sober (i.e. serious, thoughtful) and vigilant (i.e. awake, alert)
Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour. 1 Peter 5:8

Be steadfast, unmovable and always abounding in the Lord's work
Therefore, my beloved brethren, be ye stedfast, unmoveable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, forasmuch as ye know that your labour is not in vain in the Lord. 1 Corinthians 15:58 (cf. 2 Thessalonians 2:15)

Be strong in the Lord
Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might. Ephesians 6:10 (cf. 1 Corinthians 16:13; 2 Timothy 2:1)

Be thankful
And let the peace of God rule in your hearts, to the which also ye are called in one body; and be ye thankful. Colossians 3:15 (also 1 Thessalonians 5:18)

Be transformed by the renewing of your mind
And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God. Romans 12:2

Be wise as serpents and harmless as doves
Behold, I send you forth as sheep in the midst of wolves: be ye therefore wise as serpents, and harmless as doves. Matthew 10:16

Bear Christ's reproach
Let us go forth therefore unto him without the camp, bearing his reproach. Hebrews 13:13 (cf. 1 Peter 4:14)

Bear one another's burdens
Bear ye one another's burdens, and so fulfil the law of Christ. Galatians 6:2

Beware of any one spoiling you through philosophy and vain deceit
Beware lest any man spoil you through philosophy and vain deceit, after the tradition of men, after the rudiments of the world, and not after Christ. Colossians 2:8

Beware of being led away by the error of the wicked
Ye therefore, beloved, seeing ye know these things before, beware lest ye also, being led away with the error of the wicked, fall from your own stedfastness. 2 Peter 3:17

Beware of covetousness
And he said unto them, Take heed, and beware of covetousness: for a man's life consisteth not in the abundance of the things which he possesseth. Luke 12:15 (cf. Hebrews 13:5)

Beware of dogs, evil workers and the concision
Beware of dogs, beware of evil workers, beware of the concision. Philippians 3:2

Beware of false prophets
Beware of false prophets, which come to you in sheep's clothing, but inwardly they are ravening wolves. Matthew 7:15 (cf. 2 Peter 2:1)

Bless those who persecute you
Bless them which persecute you: bless, and curse not. Romans 12:14

Cast off the works of darkness
The night is far spent, the day is at hand: let us therefore cast off the works of darkness, and let us put on the armour of light. Romans 13:12

Cast all your care upon God
Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you. 1 Peter 5:7

Children obey your parents
Children, obey your parents in the Lord: for this is right. Ephesians 6:1 (also Colossians 3:20)

Comfort and edify one another
Wherefore comfort yourselves together, and edify one another, even as also ye do. 1 Thessalonians 5:11

Confess your faults one to one another
Confess your faults one to another, and pray one for another, that ye may be healed. The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much. James 5:16

Consider it a joy when you are tempted
My brethren, count it all joy when ye fall into divers temptations. James 1:2

Consider yourself dead to sin
Likewise reckon ye also yourselves to be dead indeed unto sin, but alive unto God through Jesus Christ our Lord. Romans 6:11

Desire the milk of the word of God
As newborn babes, desire the sincere milk of the word, that ye may grow thereby. 1 Peter 2:2 (cf. Matthew 4:4)

Do all things without murmuring or disputing
Do all things without murmurings and disputings. Philippians 2:14 (cf. I Corinthians 10:10)

Do all to the glory of God
Whether therefore ye eat, or drink, or whatsoever ye do, do all to the glory of God. 1 Corinthians 10:31 (cf. Colossians 3:17; 3:23)

Do good to all
As we have therefore opportunity, let us do good unto all men, especially unto them who are of the household of faith. Galatians 6:10

Do not avenge yourself
Dearly beloved, avenge not yourselves, but rather give place unto wrath: for it is written, Vengeance is mine; I will repay, saith the Lord. Romans 12:19

Do not be ashamed for suffering as a Christian
Yet if any man suffer as a Christian, let him not be ashamed; but let him glorify God on this behalf. 1 Peter 4:16

Do not be a stumbling block to a brother in Christ
Let us not therefore judge one another any more: but judge this rather, that no man put a stumblingblock or an occasion to fall in his brother's way. Romans 14:13

Do not be anxious
Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God. Philippians 4:6 (cf. Matthew 6:34)

Do not be conceited
Be of the same mind one toward another. Mind not high things, but condescend to men of low estate. Be not wise in your own conceits. Romans 12:16

Do not be conformed to this world
And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God. Romans 12:2

Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap. Galatians 6:7

Do not be drunk with wine
And be not drunk with wine, wherein is excess; but be filled with the Spirit. Ephesians 5:18

Do not be ignorant, do not sorrow regarding those who died in Christ
But I would not have you to be ignorant, brethren, concerning them which are asleep, that ye sorrow not, even as others which have no hope. 1 Thessalonians 4:13

Do not be influenced by strange doctrines
Be not carried about with divers and strange doctrines. For it is a good thing that the heart be established with grace; not with meats, which have not profited them that have been occupied therein. Hebrews 13:9

Do not be overcome by evil
Be not overcome of evil, but overcome evil with good. Romans 12:21

Do not be lazy
That ye be not slothful, but followers of them who through faith and patience inherit the promises. Hebrews 6:12 (cf. Romans 12:11)

Do not be unequally yoked with unbelievers
Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers: for what fellowship hath righteousness with unrighteousness? and what communion hath light with darkness? 2 Corinthians 6:14

Do not be weary in well doing
And let us not be weary in well doing: for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not. Galatians 6:9 (also 2 Thessalonians 3:13)

Do not believe every spirit, but try the spirits
Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God: because many false prophets are gone out into the world. 1 John 4:1

Do not bid false teachers Godspeed or receive them into your house
If there come any unto you, and bring not this doctrine, receive him not into your house, neither bid him God speed: For he that biddeth him God speed is partaker of his evil deeds. 2 John 10-11

Do not blaspheme the name of Christ
Do not they blaspheme that worthy name by the which ye are called? James 2:7

Do not commit adultery, kill, steal, bear false witness, covet
For this, Thou shalt not commit adultery, Thou shalt not kill, Thou shalt not steal, Thou shalt not bear false witness, Thou shalt not covet; and if there be any other commandment, it is briefly comprehended in this saying, namely, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. Romans 13:9 (also Ephesians 4:28)

Do not deceive yourself
Let no man deceive himself. If any man among you seemeth to be wise in this world, let him become a fool, that he may be wise. 1 Corinthians 3:18

Do not despise prophesying
Despise not prophesyings. 1 Thessalonians 5:20

Do not forsake assembling together
Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another: and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching. Hebrews 10:25

Do not give place to the devil
Neither give place to the devil. Ephesians 4:27

Do not glory in men
Therefore let no man glory in men. For all things are yours. 1 Corinthians 3:21

Do not go to law with a brother in Christ before unbelievers
But brother goeth to law with brother, and that before the unbelievers. Now therefore there is utterly a fault among you, because ye go to law one with another. Why do ye not rather take wrong? why do ye not rather suffer yourselves to be defrauded? 1 Corinthians 6:6-7

Do not grieve the Holy Spirit
And grieve not the holy Spirit of God, whereby ye are sealed unto the day of redemption. Ephesians 4:30

Do not have respect of persons
My brethren, have not the faith of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Lord of glory, with respect of persons. James 2:1 (also vs. 2-9; 1 Timothy 5:21)

Do not keep company with a brother who is a fornicator, covetous, idolater, railer, drunkard, extortioner
But now I have written unto you not to keep company, if any man that is called a brother be a fornicator, or covetous, or an idolater, or a railer, or a drunkard, or an extortioner; with such an one no not to eat. 1 Corinthians 5:11 (also vs. 13)

Do not judge one another
Let us not therefore judge one another any more: but judge this rather, that no man put a stumblingblock or an occasion to fall in his brother's way. Romans 14:13

Do not lay up treasures on earth
Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon earth, where moth and rust doth corrupt, and where thieves break through and steal. Matthew 6:19

Do not let anyone deceive you regarding the day of Christ
Let no man deceive you by any means: for that day shall not come, except there come a falling away first, and that man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition; 2 Thessalonians 2:3

Do not let sin reign in your body
Let not sin therefore reign in your mortal body, that ye should obey it in the lusts thereof. Romans 6:12

Do not let the sun go down on your wrath
Be ye angry, and sin not: let not the sun go down upon your wrath. Ephesians 4:26

Do not love the world or the things in it
Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him. 1 John 2:15

Do not make provision for the flesh
But put ye on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make not provision for the flesh, to fulfil the lusts thereof. Romans 13:14

Do not offend
Give none offence, neither to the Jews, nor to the Gentiles, nor to the church of God. 1 Corinthians 10:32

Do not pray like the hypocrites
And when thou prayest, thou shalt not be as the hypocrites are: for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and in the corners of the streets, that they may be seen of men. Verily I say unto you, They have their reward. Matthew 6:5

Do not quench the Holy Spirit
Quench not the Spirit. 1 Thessalonians 5:19

Do not render evil for evil
See that none render evil for evil unto any man; but ever follow that which is good, both among yourselves, and to all men. 1 Thessalonians 5:15 (cf. Romans 12:17)

Do not be shaken in mind, or troubled as the day of Christ is at hand
That ye be not soon shaken in mind, or be troubled, neither by spirit, nor by word, nor by letter as from us, as that the day of Christ is at hand. 2 Thessalonians 2:2

Do not speak evil one of another
Speak not evil one of another, brethren. He that speaketh evil of his brother, and judgeth his brother, speaketh evil of the law, and judgeth the law: but if thou judge the law, thou art not a doer of the law, but a judge. James 4:11

Do not swear
But above all things, my brethren, swear not, neither by heaven, neither by the earth, neither by any other oath: but let your yea be yea; and your nay, nay; lest ye fall into condemnation. James 5:12

Do not tempt Christ
Neither let us tempt Christ, as some of them also tempted, and were destroyed of serpents. 1 Corinthians 10:9

Do not walk as other Gentiles walk
This I say therefore, and testify in the Lord, that ye henceforth walk not as other Gentiles walk, in the vanity of their mind. Ephesians 4:17-19

Draw near to God
Draw nigh to God, and he will draw nigh to you. Cleanse your hands, ye sinners; and purify your hearts, ye double minded. James 4:8

Earnestly contend for the faith
Beloved, when I gave all diligence to write unto you of the common salvation, it was needful for me to write unto you, and exhort you that ye should earnestly contend for the faith which was once delivered unto the saints. Jude 1:3

Elders, oversee and feed the flock of God
Feed the flock of God which is among you, taking the oversight thereof, not by constraint, but willingly; not for filthy lucre, but of a ready mind; 1 Peter 5:2 (see 5:1-4)

Endeavor to keep the unity of the Spirit
Endeavouring to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace. Ephesians 4:3

Exhort one another
Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another: and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching. Hebrews 10:25

Examine yourself before partaking of the cup and the bread
But let a man examine himself, and so let him eat of that bread, and drink of that cup. 1 Corinthians 11:2

Fathers, bring your children up in the nurture and admonition of the Lord
And, ye fathers, provoke not your children to wrath: but bring them up in the nurture and admonition of the Lord. Ephesians 6:4

Fathers do not provoke your children to wrath
And, ye fathers, provoke not your children to wrath: but bring them up in the nurture and admonition of the Lord. Ephesians 6:4 (also Colossians 3:21)

Fear God
Honour all men. Love the brotherhood. Fear God. Honour the king. 1 Peter 2:17

Fight the good fight of faith
Fight the good fight of faith, lay hold on eternal life, whereunto thou art also called, and hast professed a good profession before many witnesses. 1 Timothy 6:12

Flee fornication
Flee fornication. Every sin that a man doeth is without the body; but he that committeth fornication sinneth against his own body. 1 Corinthians 6:18 (cf. 1 Thessalonians 4:3)

Flee idolatry
Wherefore, my dearly beloved, flee from idolatry. 1 Corinthians 10:14 (also vs. 7)

Flee youthful lusts
Flee also youthful lusts: but follow righteousness, faith, charity, peace, with them that call on the Lord out of a pure heart. 2 Timothy 2:22

Follow after things that make for peace and edify one another
Let us therefore follow after the things which make for peace, and things wherewith one may edify another. Romans 14:19

Forbear and forgive one another
Forbearing one another, and forgiving one another, if any man have a quarrel against any: even as Christ forgave you, so also do ye. Colossians 3:13 (cf. Ephesians 4:2)

Give as God as prospered
Upon the first day of the week let every one of you lay by him in store, as God hath prospered him, that there be no gatherings when I come. 1 Corinthians 16:2

Give no place to Satan
Neither give place to the devil. Ephesians 4:27

Give with purpose and cheerfully
Every man according as he purposeth in his heart, so let him give; not grudgingly, or of necessity: for God loveth a cheerful giver. 2 Corinthians 9:7

Give thanks to God for everything
Giving thanks always for all things unto God and the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ. Ephesians 5:20 (also Colossians 3:17; 1 Thessalonians 5:18)

Give to needy believers
Distributing to the necessity of saints; given to hospitality. Romans 12:13

Glorify God in your body and spirit
For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God's. 1 Corinthians 6:20 (cf. Romans 15:6; 1 Corinthians 10:31)

Glory only in the Lord
That, according as it is written, He that glorieth, let him glory in the Lord. 1 Corinthians 1:31

Greet every saint in Christ Jesus
Salute every saint in Christ Jesus. The brethren which are with me greet you. Philippians 4:21 (cf. 1 Thessalonians 5:26; 1 Peter 5:14)

Grow in grace and in the knowledge of the Lord
But grow in grace, and in the knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. To him be glory both now and for ever. Amen. 2 Peter 3:18

Have fervent love among yourselves
And above all things have fervent charity among yourselves: for charity shall cover the multitude of sins. 1 Peter 4:8 (also 1 Peter 1:22)

Have no fellowship with works of darkness
And have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather reprove them. Ephesians 5:11

Have the mind of Christ Jesus
Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus: Philippians 2:5 (see also v. 6-8)

Hold fast sound words
Hold fast the form of sound words, which thou hast heard of me, in faith and love which is in Christ Jesus. 2 Timothy 1:13

Hold fast that which is good
Prove all things; hold fast that which is good. 1 Thessalonians 5:21 (cf. Romans 12:9)

Hold forth the word of life
Holding forth the word of life; that I may rejoice in the day of Christ, that I have not run in vain, neither laboured in vain. Philippians 2:16

Honor all people
Honour all men. Love the brotherhood. Fear God. Honour the king. 1 Peter 2:17

Honor widows indeed
Honour widows that are widows indeed. 1 Timothy 5:3 (see also vs. 4-10)

Honor your father and mother
Honour thy father and mother; (which is the first commandment with promise;) Ephesians 6:2 (also Matthew 19:19; Mark 10:19; Luke 18:20)

Humble yourself under God
Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in due time. 1 Peter 5:6 (cf. James 4:10)

Husbands, dwell with your wife according to knowledge
Likewise, ye husbands, dwell with them according to knowledge, giving honour unto the wife, as unto the weaker vessel, and as being heirs together of the grace of life; that your prayers be not hindered. 1 Peter 3:7

Husbands, love your wives
Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church, and gave himself for it; Ephesians 5:25 (also Ephesians 5:28; Colossians 3:19)

Keep yourself from idols
Little children, keep yourselves from idols. Amen. 1 John 5:21 (cf. 1 Corinthians 10:7,14)

Keep yourself in God's love
Keep yourselves in the love of God, looking for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ unto eternal life. Jude 1:21

Know those who are over you in the Lord and esteem them highly for their labor
And we beseech you, brethren, to know them which labour among you, and are over you in the Lord, and admonish you; And to esteem them very highly in love for their work's sake. And be at peace among yourselves. 1 Thessalonians 5:12-13

Lay aside all malice, guile, hypocrisies, envies, evil speakings
Wherefore laying aside all malice, and all guile, and hypocrisies, and envies, and all evil speakings. 1 Peter 2:1

Lay aside all wickedness
Wherefore lay apart all filthiness and superfluity of naughtiness, and receive with meekness the engrafted word, which is able to save your souls. James 1:21

Lay aside every weight and sin
Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us. Hebrews 12:1

Lay hold of eternal life
Fight the good fight of faith, lay hold on eternal life, whereunto thou art also called, and hast professed a good profession before many witnesses. 1 Timothy 6:12

Let all things be done decently and orderly in the local assembly
Let all things be done decently and in order. 1 Corinthians 14:40

Let everyone be swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to wrath
Wherefore, my beloved brethren, let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to wrath. James 1:19

Let God know your needs
Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God. Philippians 4:6

Let no corrupt speech come from your mouth
Let no corrupt communication proceed out of your mouth, but that which is good to the use of edifying, that it may minister grace unto the hearers. Ephesians 4:29

Let not the wife depart from her husband, nor the husband put away his wife
And unto the married I command, yet not I, but the Lord, Let not the wife depart from her husband: But and if she depart, let her remain unmarried, or be reconciled to her husband: and let not the husband put away his wife. 1 Corinthians 7:10-11

Let not your good be evil spoken of
Let not then your good be evil spoken of. Romans 14:16

Let the peace of God rule in your heart
And let the peace of God rule in your hearts, to the which also ye are called in one body; and be ye thankful. Colossians 3:15

Let the word of Christ dwell in you
Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom; teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord. Colossians 3:16

Let your light shine
Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven. Matthew 5:16

Let your moderation be known
Let your moderation be known unto all men. The Lord is at hand. Philippians 4:5

Let your speech be with grace
Let your speech be alway with grace, seasoned with salt, that ye may know how ye ought to answer every man. Colossians 4:6

Live honestly before unbelievers
Having your conversation honest among the Gentiles: that, whereas they speak against you as evildoers, they may by your good works, which they shall behold, glorify God in the day of visitation. 1 Peter 2:12

Love one another
But as touching brotherly love ye need not that I write unto you: for ye yourselves are taught of God to love one another. 1 Thessalonians 4:9 (cf. John 13:34,35; Romans 13:8; 1 Peter 1:22; 1 Thessalonians 3:12)

Love your neighbor as yourself
For this, Thou shalt not commit adultery, Thou shalt not kill, Thou shalt not steal, Thou shalt not bear false witness, Thou shalt not covet; and if there be any other commandment, it is briefly comprehended in this saying, namely, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. Mark and avoid those brethren who cause divisions and offenses
Now I beseech you, brethren, mark them which cause divisions and offences contrary to the doctrine which ye have learned; and avoid them. Romans 16:17 (cf. 2 Thessalonians 3:6,14)

Masters be fair and just to your servants
Masters, give unto your servants that which is just and equal; knowing that ye also have a Master in heaven. Colossians 4:1

Obey and submit to those in authority in the local church
Obey them that have the rule over you, and submit yourselves: for they watch for your souls, as they that must give account, that they may do it with joy, and not with grief: for that is unprofitable for you. Hebrews 13:17

Obey and submit to civil authority
Put them in mind to be subject to principalities and powers, to obey magistrates, to be ready to every good work, Titus 3:1 (also Romans 13:1-5; 1 Peter 2:13-17)

Pay your taxes
For for this cause pay ye tribute also: for they are God's ministers, attending continually upon this very thing. Render therefore to all their dues: tribute to whom tribute is due; custom to whom custom; fear to whom fear; honour to whom honour. Romans 13:6-7

Praise God continually
By him therefore let us offer the sacrifice of praise to God continually, that is, the fruit of our lips giving thanks to his name. Hebrews 13:15

Pray for those in authority
I exhort therefore, that, first of all, supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks, be made for all men; For kings, and for all that are in authority; that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and honesty. 1 Timothy 2:1-2

Pray in the Spirit
But ye, beloved, building up yourselves on your most holy faith, praying in the Holy Ghost, Jude 1:20

Pray without ceasing

Present your body to God
I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service. Romans 12:1

Prove all things
Prove all things; hold fast that which is good. 1 Thessalonians 5:21 (cf. 1 John 4:1)

Provide things honest in the sight of all
Recompense to no man evil for evil. Provide things honest in the sight of all men. Romans 12:17 (cf. Romans 13:13)

Purge out the old leaven
Your glorying is not good. Know ye not that a little leaven leaveneth the whole lump? Purge out therefore the old leaven, that ye may be a new lump, as ye are unleavened. For even Christ our passover is sacrificed for us. 1 Corinthians 5:6-7

Put away a wicked person from the assembly
But them that are without God judgeth. Therefore put away from among yourselves that wicked person. 1 Corinthians 5:13 (see also 1 Corinthains 5:11)

Put away bitterness, wrath, anger, clamor, evil speaking, malice
Let all bitterness, and wrath, and anger, and clamour, and evil speaking, be put away from you, with all malice: Ephesians 4:31 (cf. Colossians 3:8)

Put away lying
Wherefore putting away lying, speak every man truth with his neighbour: for we are members one of another. Ephesians 4:25 (cf. Colossians 3:9)

Put off anger, wrath, malice, blasphemy, fifthy communication
But now ye also put off all these; anger, wrath, malice, blasphemy, filthy communication out of your mouth. Colossians 3:8 (cf. Ephesians 4:31)

Put off the old man
That ye put off concerning the former conversation the old man, which is corrupt according to the deceitful lusts. Ephesians 4:22

Put on bowels of mercies, kindness, humbleness of mind...charity

Put on the breastplate of faith and love...
But let us, who are of the day, be sober, putting on the breastplate of faith and love; and for an helmet, the hope of salvation. 1 Thessalonians 5:8

Put on the armor of light
The night is far spent, the day is at hand: let us therefore cast off the works of darkness, and let us put on the armour of light. Romans 13:12

Put on the Lord Jesus Christ
But put ye on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make not provision for the flesh, to fulfil the lusts thereof. Romans 13:14

Put on the new man
And that ye put on the new man, which after God is created in righteousness and true holiness. Ephesians 4:24

Put on the whole armor of God
Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. Ephesians 6:11

Put to death fornication, uncleanness, inordinate affection...
Mortify therefore your members which are upon the earth; fornication, uncleanness, inordinate affection, evil concupiscence, and covetousness, which is idolatry: Colossians 3:5 (cf. Romans 8:13; Ephesians 5:3; James 1:21)

Receive those weak in the faith
Him that is weak in the faith receive ye, but not to doubtful disputations. Romans 14:1 (cf. Romans 15:1)

Redeem the time
Redeeming the time, because the days are evil. Ephesians 5:16 (also Colossians 4:5)

Rejoice in the Lord always
Rejoice in the Lord alway: and again I say, Rejoice. Philippians 4:4 (also Philippians 3:1; 1 Thessalonians 5:16)

Rejoice with those who rejoice
Rejoice with them that do rejoice, and weep with them that weep. Romans 12:15

Resist the devil
Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. James 4:7 (also 1 Peter 5:9)

Sanctify the Lord God in your heart
But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts: and be ready always to give an answer to every man that asketh you a reason of the hope that is in you with meekness and fear. 1 Peter 3:15

Separate from the unclean
Wherefore come out from among them, and be ye separate, saith the Lord, and touch not the unclean thing; and I will receive you. 2 Corinthians 6:17

Servants, be obedient to your master's in the flesh.
Servants, be obedient to them that are your masters according to the flesh, with fear and trembling, in singleness of your heart, as unto Christ; Ephesians 6:5 (also vs. 6-8; Colossians 3:22; Titus 2:8,9; 1 Peter 2:18,19)

Serve one another
For, brethren, ye have been called unto liberty; only use not liberty for an occasion to the flesh, but by love serve one another. Galatians 5:13

Set your affection on things above and seek them
Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth. Colossians 3:2 (cf. Colossians 3:1; also Matthew 6:33)

Shun empty speech
But shun profane and vain babblings: for they will increase unto more ungodliness. 2 Timothy 2:16

Speak the truth in love
But speaking the truth in love, may grow up into him in all things, which is the head, even Christ. Ephesians 4:15

Stand fast and hold biblical truths
Therefore, brethren, stand fast, and hold the traditions which ye have been taught, whether by word, or our epistle. 2 Thessalonians 2:15

Stand fast in the faith
Watch ye, stand fast in the faith, quit you like men, be strong. 1 Corinthians 16:13

Stand fast in the liberty found in Christ
Stand fast therefore in the liberty wherewith Christ hath made us free, and be not entangled again with the yoke of bondage. Galatians 5:1

Stand fast in the Lord
Therefore, my brethren dearly beloved and longed for, my joy and crown, so stand fast in the Lord, my dearly beloved. Philippians 4:1 (cf. Ephesians 6:10)

Study to show yourself approved by God
Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth. 2 Timothy 2:15

Submit yourself to God
Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. James 4:7

Submit yourselves to one another
Submitting yourselves one to another in the fear of God. Ephesians 5:21 (cf. 1 Peter 5:5)

Teach and admonish one another
Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom; teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord. Colossians 3:16

Think on things that are true, honest, just, pure, lovely and of good report
Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things. Philippians 4:8

Visit the fatherless and the widows
Pure religion and undefiled before God and the Father is this, To visit the fatherless and widows in their affliction, and to keep himself unspotted from the world. James 1:27

Walk circumspectly
See then that ye walk circumspectly, not as fools, but as wise. Ephesians 5:15

Walk as children of light
For ye were sometimes darkness, but now are ye light in the Lord: walk as children of light: Ephesians 5:8

Walk honestly
Let us walk honestly, as in the day; not in rioting and drunkenness, not in chambering and wantonness, not in strife and envying. Romans 13:13 (cf. 1 Thessalonians 4:12)

Walk in Christ
As ye have therefore received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk ye in him: Rooted and built up in him, and stablished in the faith, as ye have been taught, abounding therein with thanksgiving. Colossians 2:6,7

Walk in love
And walk in love, as Christ also hath loved us, and hath given himself for us an offering and a sacrifice to God for a sweetsmelling savour. Ephesians 5:2 (also 1 Thessalonians 4:9)

Walk in the Spirit
This I say then, Walk in the Spirit, and ye shall not fulfil the lust of the flesh. Galatians 5:16 (also Galatians 5:25)

Walk in wisdom
Walk in wisdom toward them that are without, redeeming the time. Colossians 4:5

Walk worthy
I therefore, the prisoner of the Lord, beseech you that ye walk worthy of the vocation wherewith ye are called. Ephesians 4:1 (cf. Colossians 1:10; 1 Thessalonians 2:12, 4:1)

Warn the unruly, comfort the feebleminded, support the weak, be patient
Now we exhort you, brethren, warn them that are unruly, comfort the feebleminded, support the weak, be patient toward all men. 1 Thessalonians 5:14

Watch and be sober
Therefore let us not sleep, as do others; but let us watch and be sober. 1 Thessalonians 5:6 (also 1 Peter 4:7)

We are ambassadors for Christ
Now then we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God did beseech you by us: we pray you in Christ's stead, be ye reconciled to God. 2 Corinthians 5:20

Witness to the unsaved
But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth. Acts 1:8

Withdraw from every brother that walks disorderly, not working, but a busybody
Now we command you, brethren, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that ye withdraw yourselves from every brother that walketh disorderly, and not after the tradition which he received of us. 2 Thessalonians 3:6 (also vs. 7-12)

Wives, submit yourselves to your own husbands
Wives, submit yourselves unto your own husbands, as unto the Lord. Ephesians 5:22 (cf. 5:24; also Colossians 3:18; Titus 2:4,5; 1 Peter 3:1,2)

Yield yourself to God
Neither yield ye your members as instruments of unrighteousness unto sin: but yield yourselves unto God, as those that are alive from the dead, and your members as instruments of righteousness unto God. Romans 6:13
